Managing Your Songs and Music

The big question to ask yourself here is: am I qualified to manage my songs and music? That’s why some of the biggest names in history have managers and agents. You write music, they take care it.

All In The Family

Some famous artists, be they singer-songwriter or one or the other specifically, have chosen to be represented by a family member; usually a mother or father. As good of an idea as this may seem to some, it can frequently lead to bad blood and estrangement. This is not to say that there aren’t some beautiful relationships out there between talented artists and their manager parent; it’s just a little word to the wise. How close is too close? Can you be too close to a situation? Yes you can. When you can no longer see objectively, you are too close to the situation.

Worst Case Scenario

And god forbid you be one of the poor souls that has been cursed with an overachiever for a parent, thereby insisting upon you becoming an overachiever. Or worst of all, the parent that takes advantage of their child’s fame and fortune only for the child to find out upon be coming of age, that they’re broke.
